Deposit money into an account

Select the deposit method that works best for you:

If your deposit arrives on a business day before 4 p.m. ET:

  • EFT and check deposits are generally available to use within 4 business days
  • Bank wire or direct deposits are available immediately
Make a contribution to an IRA or a 529 college savings plan

Select the contribution method that works best for you:

  • You don’t have to wait until the funds are available to invest your money
  • 529 plan contributions are invested based on your existing instructions; you’ll receive a confirmation when we’ve invested your 529 contribution
Have deposits or contributions occur automatically

After you set it up, and based on whether or not you’re using existing bank information, you can generally start using the feature within 2-4 business days.

Direct deposit pay, Social Security, or pension benefits

  • It may take a couple of pay periods before your direct deposit is active
  • You should get a confirmation from your employer when the setup is completed

Contribute to a 401(k) or 403(b) plan

Log in to NetBenefitsLog In Required to review your balances and contributions for your plans managed by Fidelity—enter the same username and password you use for your other Fidelity accounts.

Employers set up 401(k) or 403(b) plans. If you want to change your contributions, you may need to contact your employer or plan administrator.

Roll over an old 401(k) plan

Visit 401(k) Rollover to an IRA to get started with:

  • Opening a new IRA (if you don’t have one)
  • Requesting the money
  • Choosing your investments
  • Your former employer or plan administrator initiates the rollover.

    Important: The check should be made payable to Fidelity Management Trust Company (or FMTC), FBO [your name]. Be sure to include your IRA account number on the check.

  • You have a few options for depositing your check:
    • Use the Fidelity Mobile® app: Scan and deposit checks with your iPhone®, iPad®, or AndroidTM
    • Bring to a Fidelity Investor Center: Find an Investor Center by ZIP Code
