Venmo and your Fidelity accounts

At Fidelity we put your financial wellbeing above all else, which includes ensuring the privacy and protection of your Fidelity account data. That’s why we've established a secure connection that better controls how third-party websites and apps that you've authorized interact with your Fidelity accounts. We’re requiring those third parties to use this secure connection.

Who is affected by this change?
If your existing connection to Venmo is authorized through your Fidelity® debit card or linked directly via your Fidelity routing and account numbers, you will not need to re-establish your connection. Otherwise, you'll need to choose one of the options below and follow the steps before October 1, 2023, to maintain the connection between Venmo and your Fidelity accounts and avoid any disruption in service.

Here's how to establish a direct connection between your Fidelity account(s) and Venmo and continue to move money.

Option 1: Link your Fidelity® debit card.

The easiest way to continue to pay people through Venmo with your Fidelity account is to link your Fidelity debit card in the Venmo app.

  1. Open the Venmo app.
  2. Tap "Me" in bottom right corner.
  3. Select the gear icon in the top right corner.
  4. Tap "Payment methods."
  5. Tap "Add a bank or card." Tap "Card."
  6. Enter your Fidelity debit card number, expiration date, security code and ZIP Code (or tap the camera and submit a picture of your debit card).

You can establish a direct connection between your eligible Fidelity account(s) and Venmo using your routing and account number. This will enable money transfer to and from Venmo into your Fidelity account, the full functionality you have today. Follow the steps below to learn how.

  • See detailed steps to link directly to your Fidelity account.

STEP 1: Get your routing and account numbers.

    1. Sign into the Fidelity app or Fidelity.com.
    2. In the app, scroll to find the account you'd like to link to Venmo and tap to visit the account's overview page.
    3. Tap the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the app. (If you’re using Fidelity.com on a computer, click on the appropriate Fidelity account, then tap the 3 dots next to the account name at the top of the page to see your routing and account numbers.)
    4. In the menu that appears, tap "View account and routing numbers." There is a "Copy" link that will help you copy and paste the numbers.
    5. Leave your Fidelity app open or remain logged in.

STEP 2: To establish a direct connection between your Fidelity account and Venmo, first you’ll need to remove your Fidelity account and reconnect them in the following steps.

    1. Open the Venmo app.
    2. Tap "Me" in bottom right corner.
    3. Select the gear icon in the top right corner.
    4. Tap "Payment methods," choose your Fidelity account (your Fidelity account will appear as "UMB, NA Bank") and tap "Remove."

STEP 3: Re-add your Fidelity account via Venmo.

    2. Select the gear icon in the top right corner.
    3. Tap "Payment methods."
    4. Tap "Add a bank or card." Tap "Bank."
    5. DO NOT tap "Next." Tap the blue link that reads, "Verify bank manually instead."
    6. Paste the routing number you copied from the Fidelity app. Repeat for the account number.
    7. In 1–3 days, you’ll receive 2 "micro-deposits" into your Fidelity account that are less than $1. Micro-deposits are small amounts of money transferred in and out of your account to securely validate ownership without sharing your login credentials.

STEP 4: Validate your Fidelity account in Venmo.

    1. Open the Venmo app.
    2. Tap "Me."
    3. Select the gear icon in the top right.
    4. Tap "Payment methods," choose your Fidelity account (Your Fidelity account will appear as "UMB, NA Bank") and tap "Verify."
    5. Enter the two micro-deposit amounts in the order you received them (no decimals or $ sign needed).
