Hey everyone, welcome to FidQs. The place where we answer your top Fidelity customer questions as quickly and simply as humanly possible.

Today’s question is…how do I find and reinvest my dividends at Fidelity?

Excellent question, but first, for any of you lovely folks who need a refresher on dividends, I’ve got just the thing.

A dividend is a distribution of a portion of a company’s earnings, decided by the board of directors, to a class of shareholders.

Ok so now that we’ve have that out of the way… it’s time to talk about how you can see what you’re earning in dividends at Fidelity.

So for starters, after signing into Fidelity.com…

Just choose positions here at the top, select dividend view from the dropdown, and you can see your dividend info for all your accounts.

Now it’s time to talk about reinvesting...

And if you’re not too sure on what that is, let me explain:

I really love shoes. I mean, I’ve got twenty pairs of mint condition sneakers in my closet, sittin’ pretty, right now.

So given my deep admiration of footwear, let’s say I own stock in a well-known shoe company. And that company pays a yearly dividend payment of $240. I could use that money to reinvest AKA buy more shares of the shoe company, which could in turn, potentially grow my money over time.

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about reinvesting...and my shoe obsession...let’s walk through how to set it all up.

Just go back to where you previously viewed your dividend info and choose “manage dividends”

You’ll then be able to view all the investments from all the eligible accounts you own that currently receive dividends.

See this one? That means your dividends and capital gains are going to be paid in cash instead of automatically reinvested.

To reinvest, just select “Reinvest in security”...

But before you’re done, to make sure all of your dividends and capital gains get automatically reinvested for any future positions you buy in your accounts, just select “Manage settings” here at the top right

And choose Reinvest in security for Stocks, ETFs and others as well as mutual funds.

Alright that’s it for today.

And just to recap, a few things we learned were how you can find your dividends on Fidelity.com, how to reinvest them and what great taste I have in footwear.

Thanks for watching, see ya next time.
