Adding a joint account owner or authorized user to your credit card account

Adding a person to your account can offer many advantages including the ability to see all your transactions in one place, providing access to credit, and earning additional rewards by consolidating spending. This person could be a dependent, partner, or other trusted individual. If you’re interested in adding someone to your account, you can do this by adding an authorized user or joint account owner. While these two types of access have similarities, there are some important distinctions.

Here's an overview of the key differences between an authorized user and joint account owner:

Authorized users:

  • Are not financially responsible for the balance due.
  • Are added to the account at the request of an owner.
  • Will not see the credit card on their Fidelity.com account and will not have online access to the account. However, they may call Cardmember Service for certain account information or to make a payment by calling the number on the back of the card. An authorized user may not make any changes to the account.
  • Must be 13 years of age or older to be an authorized user.
  • Account is reported to all major credit bureaus as having the funds available for their use.

To add an authorized user, visit the Services pageLog In Required and select Add authorized user to complete the online form.

Joint account owner:

  • Both owners are financially responsible for the balance due.
  • Can log in to Fidelity.com to make changes on the account, the same as the original or primary account owner. Once a person has been added a joint account owner on an account, they cannot be removed.
  • Must be 18 years of age to be a joint owner.
  • Account and its history are reported to all major credit bureaus on the owner(s) credit report.

To add a joint account owner, visit the Services pageLog In Required and select Add joint owner (pdf) to access the application form. Once it’s been filled out, you will need to mail the form to: Cardmember Service, P.O. Box 6354, Fargo, ND 58125-6354, or fax your completed form to Cardmember Service at: 1-866-616-1750.

If the prospective joint account owner has previously placed a credit freeze with Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, contact each of these credit bureaus with which you placed a freeze to remove it before applying.
