Buying crypto

  • What is the settlement time for buy orders in Fidelity Crypto® accounts?

Crypto buy orders settle instantly after they fill and appear in your Fidelity Crypto® account positions.

  • What does cash committed to open orders mean?

Cash committed to open orders is the cash allocated to pending orders before your trade is executed. The amount committed to open orders decreases your cash available to trade.

  • Do I need to transfer money before buying in my Fidelity Crypto® account?

You can transfer money into your Fidelity Crypto® account while placing your buy order if your funding account has enough settled money. When an “Insufficient funds” message appears in the order review, choose “Add funds” to transfer settled money from your funding account and then continue with your order.

  • Why are coin amounts limited for buy orders in my Fidelity Crypto® account?

Due to the potential movement of the price per coin during trade execution, you can buy crypto with up to 95% of your available cash when placing buy orders in coin amounts. To buy with more than 95% of your available cash, you can enter the buy quantity in dollar amounts.

  • How are crypto buy orders in dollar amounts affected by fees?

When you enter a crypto buy order in a dollar amount, the quantity of crypto you purchase is reduced so the total cost of your order (including the 1% fee) won't exceed the dollar amount you entered. The trading fee won't exceed 1% of the market value of your executed order. For example, a $2,500 buy order of BTC that fills at a price of $100,000 would result in a purchase of 0.0247525 BTC (market value of $2,475.25) with a fee of $24.75 and a total cost of $2,500.

  • How are crypto buy orders in crypto quantity affected by fees?

When you enter a crypto buy order in crypto quantity, the total cost of the purchase is the market value of the crypto (the quantity multiplied by the price when it executes) plus the 1% fee, and your purchase won't exceed the crypto quantity you entered. The trading fee won't exceed 1% of the market value of your executed order. For example, a buy order of 1 ETH that fills at a price of $3,500 would result in a purchase of 1 ETH (market value of $3,500) with a fee of $35 and a total cost of $3,535.
