Nearly 100 Fidelity technologists from the company's Westlake, Texas site recently participated in a hackathon-like blitz of service known as Technology Impact Day. Teams of IT professionals worked with eleven different non-profits from across the greater Dallas area to solve critical technology challenges faced by each organization.
Projects ranged from making a website more user-friendly—streamlining request processing to deliver faster service—to strengthening mobile app security. The day was a win-win for all. Each of the participating nonprofits received practical technology solutions to address real needs. Fidelity volunteers gained an opportunity to apply their skills in creative, new ways; seeing first-hand how their professional talents can make their communities a better place to live and work. A staff member from one of the non-profit organizations remarked on the day's end result, "In just 1.5 hours, the Fidelity team solved what we had been working on for four years. That kind of support is invaluable."
Technology Impact Day was organized in partnership with Common Impact, a national nonprofit that builds corporate skills-based volunteer programs. Since 2004, Fidelity associates from across the U.S. have worked with Common Impact to complete 130 volunteer projects totaling a $7.9 million commitment to aligning business with social purpose.
