FAQs: How to Gift Shares
Can someone send a gift to my child's 529 college savings plan?
Yes, it's easy for your friends and family to make a gift to your child's 529 college savings plan. Please see the College Gifting page for details.
What are the potential benefits for giving or receiving shares?
Gifting allows you (or the sender) to transfer shares—without selling them—directly to another person or place. You can even do this anonymously if you like. Plus your gift may be tax deductible. Please check with your tax advisor for details. If you're gifting from an IRA, you'll need to complete a Withdrawals — IRA One-Time form (PDF).
