FAQs: How to Use the One-and-the-Same Letter to Correct a Name Discrepancy
One of my accounts includes my middle initial and one does not. Do I need to submit a One-and-the-Same Letter?
No, as long as the Social Security numbers match, we consider these two registrations identical. It's only in the case of suffixes, nicknames, or misspellings that we require a One-and-the-Same Letter. For example, John S. Smith and John Smith are considered identical. Johnny S. Smith and John S. Smith would require a One-and-the-Same Letter.
